Coleman Bridge Opening

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.” Psalm 23:2-3 KJV

If you live in Gloucester the Coleman Bridge is a part of your life. At some point you will probably cross the bridge, sometimes several times in a day. Boats travel under the bridge all day long, but every now and then a bigger ship will require the bridge to open. I was lucky enough to be on a ship last week that made the bridge open in order to return to Portsmouth. As I stood on the bridge of the ship and watched the sections swing open I was struck at how there was suddenly a path for us to make our journey back to our home port. The path was suddenly clear where moments before was a very solid barrier to our route.

Sometimes in our daily life we may feel like we face only barriers. But even King David, who had been through much in his life, wrote that God was with him when he was in low places, and God was with him when he found himself by green pastures and calm waters. God provides a path.

And so gentle reader, wherever you may find yourself today with daily living, know that God is providing us all with a path. It may not be the path of our choosing, it may not be the path that we think we need to be on, it may not even be a path that that we are certain will work; but let us trust in the one who created us and who creates the path we need to walk.

Sometimes the barriers swing out of our way. Sometimes we need to work through them or around them. In our journey the one thing we must trust is that God is with us on the journey, and God is providing a path. Let’s choose to stay on course when it is tempting to take another route. Let’s trust in the Lord to lead us today.

PRAYER: Gracious God, thank you for providing a us a place to take our next step. Lord some of us are facing great barriers today, and we pray for our brothers and sisters in their challenges. Keep us all close to you and on your way forward. In Christ’s Holy Name we pray. Amen.
